SERIOUS INTRODUCTIONS · MUTUAL CHOICE
Tips for a first international video call
A first call is a chance to see whether conversation feels comfortable. It is not an interview, an identity guarantee or a commitment to a relationship.
Agree on a short, comfortable start
Confirm the time zone and a realistic length. Choose a quiet location and a neutral background. Ask whether translation is helpful and avoid recording or screenshots without explicit consent.
Use open, ordinary questions
Talk about daily routines, interests and what a serious relationship means to each of you. Leave salary, documents and immigration decisions out of the first call. Give the other person time to explain in a language they are comfortable using.
Decide afterwards
Take time to consider whether you felt respected. Either person can decline another conversation. If someone asks for money, pressures you to undress or demands private information, end the call and report the behaviour.
